The Protection Services Operations Center (PSOC) is providing an update for Tropical Storm (TS) Kay. TS Kay was downgraded from a Category One Hurricane after making landfall in Baja California Sur yesterday. TS Kay was last located ~195mi/~315km SSE of San Diego, California tracking NNW at ~13mph/~20kph with maximum sustained winds of ~50mph/~80kph.
High Wind Advisories are in effect for San Diego and Southern Imperial Counties in Southern California. San Diego has already reported winds of ~40mph/~64kph in the region. Winds gusts greater than ~50mph/~80mph are forecasted for San Diego and Imperial Counties through tonight. Parts of Southern California could receive between one to eight inches of rain which poses the risk of flooding, landslides, and sinkholes. Sandbags are available for unincorporated residents of San Diego County at the fire stations listed below. The PSOC will continue to monitor Hurricane Kay’s track and provide updates once more information is received.
